This bird likes to rest in trees or sticks over water. It holds it's wings out to dry because it does not have oil glands to waterproof itself. It's nickname is "snakebird" because of the way it looks when it swims; only it's neck and head show. It can be found in freshwater marshes, swamps and rivers all over the state.
