Many animals congregate around the alligator holes and it becomes a shared resource. Raccoons raid the turtle's nests which are laid around the edges of the hole. Birds congregate with frogs and occasionally one or the other becomes a meal, but it's evident that these holes have been an important part of this ecosystem for a long time!
